MERIS Land Algorithm: Preliminary Validation Results
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents a first and preliminary evaluation of the performance of the algorithm implemented in the Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) ground segment for assessing the status of land surfaces. First, we propose an updated version of the MERIS algorithm itself, which improves the accuracy of the product. Second, we analyze the first results by inter-comparing the MERIS Global Vegetation Index (MGVI) to similar products derived from the Seaviewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS) that are generated at the European Commission Joint Research Center (EC-JRC). The first evaluation between MERIS and SeaWiFS derived products is made using data acquired on August 3, 2002 by both instruments. The results show acceptable agreement and the differences are well understood by radiation transfer models. Finally, we propose some recommendations to improve the current MGVI-land algorithm.

Validation of the Operational Meris Fapar Products
This paper discusses the validation of the operational Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) land product which corresponds to the biophysical variable of the Fraction of Absorbed Photosynthetically Active Radiation (FAPAR). The FAPAR value acts as an indicator of the presence and state of the vegetation and it is currently estimated from MERIS data at both reduced and full resolution ...

This paper discusses the validation of the operational Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) land product which corresponds to the biophysical variable of the Fraction of Absorbed Photosynthetically Active Radiation (FAPAR). The FAPAR value is currently and automatically estimated from MERIS data at reduced resolution and it can be computed using the full resolution using the same phys...
متن کاملThe Land Surface Temperature Synergistic Processor in BEAM: A Prototype towards Sentinel-3
Land Surface Temperature (LST) is one of the key parameters in the physics of land-surface processes on regional and global scales, combining the results of all surface-atmosphere interactions and energy fluxes between the surface and the atmosphere. With the advent of the European Space Agency (ESA) Sentinel 3 (S3) satellite, accurate LST retrieval methodologies are being developed by exploiti...
متن کاملFirst Validation of Meris Aerosol Product over Land
The detection of Dense Dark Vegetation (DDV) using the Atmospherically Resistant Vegetation Index (ARVI) and then the aerosol retrieval over DDV are the critical points of the land part of the processing of MERIS images implemented in the level 2 processor. We present here the first validation attempt of the MERIS aerosol product over land by checking its consistency and comparing it to AERONET...
متن کاملEvaluation of the performance of MERIS spectrometer data in snow cover monitoring in the boreal forest belt
This paper describes a work plan for the evaluation of the capabilities and performance of Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) data for monitoring snow covered land surfaces, specifically in the boreal forest belt. The performance of MERIS over snow in the northern latitudes is mainly estimated by comparison of time series derived from MERIS surface reflectance against values derived...
